Mukti Yoga School

All teachers start with a 200 hour Foundation training. You do not have to be a teacher to take the training. Many people take this training simply to deepen their yoga practice. Upon completion of the course, trainees are fully prepared to teach classes and to register with Yoga Alliance at the 200hr level.

Mukti is a sanskrit word meaning "inner liberation." It is often heard in the phrase Jivamukti, which means "one who is liberated," and is also a term for a common style of yoga. Both Jivamukti Yoga and Mukti Yoga are forms of Hatha Yoga, but that is where the difference ends.

Mukti Yoga is a style developed and refined by Julie Rader. It carries notes of the Vinyasa Flow style of the West, but, in homage to Julie's rich training with Swami Janakananda and Swami Satyananda, goes well beyond the popular "power Vinyasa yoga" style.

Mukti Yoga is:

  • Alignment based flow following a specific formula to keep students safe. We want people to practice Yoga for their entire lives, and this structure is the best way to make sure the body can tolerate this goal.
  • This class formula varies depending on the season, time of day, moon cycle, influences of the world around us and the students in the room. No two classes are the same. We call this "intuitive" teaching, or teaching from the heart!
  • The goal of any Mukti Yoga class is to move from the inside out. Rather than allowing the postures to dictate the class, energy comes first, moving students to a more open understanding of how the mind-body connection is at work in their lives.

Where do I Begin?

200 hour Foundation training is the first step. Many people take this training simply to deepen their yoga practice. However trainees are fully prepared to teach classes after completing the 200 hour Foundation training.

Mukti yoga offers several different modules so teachers can specialize their training focus. This allows teachers to have a specialized field of expertise.

What modules are well suited for students who want to have a deeper understanding of yoga for personal usage?

The following modules are more experiential and not as focused on teaching:
Living Yoga Retreat, Tantric/Kriya, Chakra Vinyasa, Pranayama & Meditation, and Intuitive Yogi

What modules strongly focus on the teaching aspect of yoga?

Advanced Asana, Vinyasa, Therapeutics, Prenatal, Kids Yoga, Yoga for Athletes, Antatomy, Alignament & Adjustments, Spiritual Yogi and Yin/Restorative
