What style of yoga is Mukti Yoga?

Mukti Yoga is a style developed and refined by Julie Rader. It carries notes of the Vinyasa Flow style of the West, but, in homage to Julie’s rich training with Swami Janakananda and Swami Satyananda, goes well beyond the popular “power Vinyasa yoga” style. Mukti’s purpose is to bring ancient techniques to the modern yogi in a simple and profound way. Mukti is more dedicated than ever to sharing the true essence of yoga in a compassionate, educated, humble and deeply embodied way.

Mukti Yoga is:

  • Alignment based flow following a specific formula to keep students safe. We want people to practice Yoga for their entire lives, and this structure is the best way to make sure the body can tolerate this goal.
  • This class formula varies depending on the season, time of day, moon cycle, influences of the world around us and the students in the room. No two classes are the same. We call this “intuitive” teaching, or teaching from the heart!
  • The goal of any Mukti Yoga class is to move from the inside out. Rather than allowing the postures to dictate the class, energy comes first, moving students to a more open understanding of how the mind-body connection is at work in their lives.

Where do I begin?

The Mukti Yoga 200-hour Foundation training is usually the first step. Many people take this training simply to deepen their yoga practice; however, trainees are fully prepared to teach classes after completing the 200-hour Foundation training.

Mukti Yoga also offers several different modules that some practitioners take prior to the Foundation training. These different modules were developed so teachers can specialize their training focus. This allows teachers to have a specialized field of expertise.

What makes Mukti Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training different?

The Mukti Foundation Training serves as the cornerstone of Mukti’s teacher training program. The objective of this training is to prepare participants to teach Hatha yoga at all levels. The course covers anatomy and alignment for over 60 asanas. Participants learn how to sequence a class, provide pose modifications, and make adjustments to students.Through a combination of in-studio training and real world teaching and adjusting of all body types in community yoga classes, Mukti trainees are prepared and ready to teach immediately upon graduation. Mukti is a heartfelt training program, guiding teachers to lead with intuition and care. Teachers learn to tune into what students truly need, and as a result no two Multi classes are ever the same. Graduates of Mukti’s Foundation Module receive an all-encompassing and ever-lasting yoga teacher training experience upon which they can continue to build. The bond trainees create with one another and their mentor(s) continues long after their training ends. Mukti is a tribe; a yoga family/community with a common thread linking us to one another and creating a lifelong support system, whether or not you choose to teach yoga.
